Whitney Wolfe Creates A Women Friendly App With Bumble

Whitney Wolfe is responsible for a Bumble app that has completely changed online dating. She has addressed the problems women have with online dating such as feeling uncomfortable or harassed. She is passionate about stopping any harassment or bullying and her app places women first. Andrey Andreev founded a social network in Europe called Badoo and gave her some advice. This led to a business partnership and the founding of Bumble.

Bumble gives men and women the ability to express interest by tapping on a profile. No connection will be recognized unless both individuals have liked each others profiles. Once this has happened only the woman can make the first move. The app has been incredibly successful and by August of 2016 there were 25 billion profiles viewed and over 7 million users. Over 350,000 conversations are started by women every day. The app boasts a close ratio of men and women which is almost unheard of in online dating. This was one of the originals goals of Whitney Wolfe. She wanted to balance out the dating world. Whitney Wolfe feels that by having women make the first move a man will feel flattered instead of rejected. She believes this is a large part of what has made the app so successful.

Whitney Wolfe’s life began in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her parents were a housewife and a property developer. She chose the Southern Methodist University for her education with a major in International Studies. Her first business began while she was in college when she sold bamboo tote bags to help the people affected by the BP oil spill. Once she graduated college Whitney Wolfe went to Southeast Asia so she could work with orphanages.

Whitney Wolfe has built her reputation as an American entrepreneur. She founded Bumble and remains the company’s CEO. She is additionally the co-founder of Tinder. As of April of 2016, Bumble and Tinder are the first and fourth most popular sites for dating online. Business Insider named her one of the most important women below 30 in 2014. In 2016 she became one of the women in technology by Elle.

Doe Deere Eyed Beauty

The doe-eyed Russian beauty Doe Deere is known to be the “queen of unicorns” and the creator of the uprising makeup brand called Lime Crime. After coming to America, Doe began her entrepreneurship in New York. Her imaginative and ambitious spirit pushed her to pursue her dreams of becoming a musician. Doe lived in Manhattan for half her life but calls Brooklyn her stomping grounds because she spent most her time there and it is also where she established her band. Her life in Brooklyn is also a memory she shares with her husband who was also in the band. They worked very well together, as songwriters and musicians, they shared the same passion for music so finding a balance between work and life came very easy for them. Deere has always had an entrepreneurial attitude. At the age of 13, she started a tattoo business and sold temporary tattoos to her classmates. She started by advertising the artwork on her body and making it appear fashionable until her classmates also wanted the tattoos. As a child, she was always into bright colors and art and she would constantly color on herself.

Above all, she acknowledges how being a musician taught her how to be humble and appreciate when people came out to her events or supported her music. However, Doe Deere found a new passion in life which is makeup. In 2004, the fashion and makeup industry was centered around a natural look with nude colors but Doe, standing out among the rest of the world, gravitated toward vibrant and eccentric colors. From her uniqueness, Lime Crime was born. The named came to her when she was trying to launch her online store. Lime is her favorite color and living life on the wild side, she decided the name Lime Crime was going to bring her success and it did. Doe advises people that aspire to be like her to follow their hearts.

Breaking All Fashion Rules

Rules are meant to be broken, every innovator knows that! Most of us remain completely unsure of who exactly makes up rules on fashion and beauty, but Doe Deere of Lime Crime believes that these seemingly arbitrarily rules are simply a guideline, and one should express themselves outside of these confines, at will. Her makeup line, marketed as “makeup for unicorns,” is a very colorful line of cruelty-free cosmetics that dares to take chances and fully encourages self-expression.

Some of the rules that Doe Deere feels should be ignored begin with what is classically considered a fashion faux-pas: wearing a bold lip with a bold eye color. She feels you should take chances, match a colorful, bright, bold palette to your mood and desire, and just go with it.

It seems since the dawn of time there has been a lot of consensus, amongst just about everyone, about not wearing too many colors at once, be the source of said color clothing or make-up.

Lime Crime’s CEO feels that mixing patterns is yet another rule that should be broken whenever the mood strikes! Some people can easily mix a whole bunch of patterns, and do it very well, but for others, this can prove challenging. She does, however, state that when mixing patterns, try to stay within the same color family, and try to use patterns that have some synergistic qualities.

Another rule that Doe Deere feels needs to be broken, whenever you feel like it, is wearing socks with open-toed shoes! Ms. Deere believes that socks are one accessory, that although we have a lot of fun with, we hide them behind our shoes! She fully encourages exciting socks paired with open-toed shoes for fashion fun!

Her love of color is what precipitates her interest in coloring her hair with nearly every color of the rainbow. Wearing colorful clothing with your bold hair is a form of self-expression to be fully embraced.

Doe Deere also takes umbrage with her mother who claims she cannot wear a certain dress because of her age. She feels everyone should wear anything they want with no regard for antiquated fashion rules on age-appropriate dressing.

Finally, take your cocktail dress out of the closet, out of the plastic, and wear it to the grocery store! Occasion-specific dressing is a model that is no longer working; why leave a great dress in the closet, just waiting for an event that warrants wearing it? Wear your ball gowns to the mall, and make this cosmetic queen proud!
